SUITABLE WORDS

PROVERBS 25:11-15

“Timing is everything,” as the saying goes. The Bible says that proper timing also pertains to our words and speech. Consider a time when God used you to encourage someone with a timely word or a situation where you wanted to speak but decided it would be best to be quiet.

According to the Bible, there is a proper moment to speak (Ecclesiastes 3:7). Solomon compared well-timed and articulate speech to golden apples in a silver bowl: priceless, exquisite, and expertly produced (Proverbs 25:11-12). Whether speaking words of love, support, or rebuke, knowing when to speak is advantageous for both the speaker and the hearer. Silence has its place and time, too.

Trying to know what to say and when to say it can be challenging. Our discernment will be strengthened by the Spirit. He will assist us in choosing the appropriate words to say at the appropriate moment and in the appropriate way for the benefit of others and His honour.

🙏 Lord, help us to be wise in how and when our words or our silence may be helpful to others.
