PSALM 46
In the past, letters were responded to within weeks, while fax machines provided a few days’ response. Today, with email, instant messaging, and mobile phones, a response is expected the same day.
In Psalm 46, two commands are read: “Be still, and know that I am God.” Being still is essential in today’s busy world, as even a few moments of quiet are not natural. This stillness prepares us for the second command, “Know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth.” In a world that suppresses God, how can we carve out time to nourish our inner life and allow Him to be exalted?
Patricia Hampl defines prayer as a habit of attention focused on all that is. The first step in prayer is to acknowledge God’s existence, allowing us to admit our failures, weaknesses, and limitations to the One who responds with infinite mercy. This focus allows us to be still and know that God is God, even when the answers are not instant.
🙏 Lord, please teach us to be silent as we spend time with You in prayer and nurture our souls.
