REGULAR PEOPLE

JUDGES 6:11–16

Gideon was a regular person. Judges’ account of his life is motivational. He was a farmer, yet he was also timid. Gideon’s initial response to God calling him to save Israel from the Midianites was to highlight the frailty of his tribe, Manasseh, and the fact that he was the least among his father’s family (Judges 6:15). God assured him that He would be by his side and that he would be able to complete the task at hand (v. 16). As one of the great heroes of faith, Gideon’s obedience brought victory to Israel (Hebrews 11:32).

This strategy to protect the Israelites against a powerful enemy force involved many other people and was very important. Three hundred warriors, all brave heroes, were given to Gideon by God to help him win the battle. Although we are not given their names, the Scriptures recount their courage and obedience (Judges 7:5-23).

God still calls everyday people to carry out His mission and promises to stay by our side all through it. It is apparent that the power comes from God and not from us because we are just regular individuals that God uses.

God’s extraordinary plan is carried out by ordinary people.

🙏🏻Lord, we are just regular people, but You are an all-powerful God.
