PAX ROMANA

ISAIAH 9:1-7

The cost of war is beyond anyone’s capabilities. 64 countries in the world were reportedly engaged in war at one point, according to a website. When will they end, and how? While we desire peace, justice must not be sacrificed.

Jesus was born during a period of apparent “peace,” but it was actually marked by oppression that was carried out harshly. The Pax Romana (or “Roman Peace”) only existed because Rome put an end to all opposition.

A hostile army was preparing to conquer Jerusalem seven centuries before that era of relative peace. God delivered a startling proclamation from the gloom of battle. (Isaiah 9:2, 6-7). Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled in the person of the Christ child, according to Matthew (Matthew 1:22-23; also see Isaiah 7:14).

The tyrannical Pax Romana will not be Jesus’ type of government. It will be the Prince of Peace’s reign.

He welcomes all who want peace (Matthew 11:28–30).

🙏 Thank You Lord for ruling in both peace and righteousness.
