MISPLACED TRUST

PSALM 20

Growing up, I enjoyed watching birds. Recently, I observed crows in a city suburb. Despite the tree’s leaves being shed, the crows chose to rest on the dry, weak limbs instead of sturdy branches. They flapped their way out of danger, but their bird sense did not tell them that solid branches were more secure.

How about us? Where do we place our trust? Psalm 20:7 emphasises the importance of trusting in the name of the Lord our God rather than material assets like chariots and horses. These assets provide security in daily life but do not provide security during times of trouble. Trusting in possessions or wealth can lead to them giving way, as branches can give way beneath crows.

Trusting in chariots and horses can lead to failure, while those trusting in God will rise up and stand firm.
