MATTHEW 2:1-12
The original wise men were not Jews. They were pagan astrologers from the east, known as the Magi. They were respected and scholarly Gentile scientists, likely serving as priests or court advisors.
They wanted to uncover the mysterious star in the heavens, which they believed was a newborn king. They followed the star to Bethlehem, discovering the young king, and their lives were forever changed.
Firstly, the story of the promised Messiah to Jews was met with a response from Gentiles from a foreign land, showcasing God’s commitment to reaching every person on earth, regardless of their distance, and never abandoning anyone.
Next, the wise men’s passion for Jesus led them to travel far, a passion that believers should maintain daily.
They generously presented gifts to Jesus, demonstrating the importance of giving our best and being grateful for His provision and care. We should offer our fullness to Him.
Finally, they listened to God’s voice in a dream, avoiding harm. We should be open to the Holy Spirit’s promptings, even when busy, to hear His voice.
This Christmas season, I pray that we have the time to be still and seek God like wise men, as He is worthy of our time, passion, worship, gifts, and obedience.
