LESSON ON FISHING

1 PETER 5:1-9; JAMES 4:7

The man observed a fish emerge from the dense undergrowth to investigate. He approached and glanced at the enticing bait at the end of his line before backing into the weeds. He came a second time before he discovered the hook. He waved his tail, then vanished, never to be seen again.

Satan holds temptation out in front of us like a fishhook. It looks appealing. However, that is the extent of Satan’s power. He cannot make us swallow the hook, after all. His influence ends where our desire and decision-making meet. When we choose to obey the Holy Spirit’s warning, Satan is unable to further harm us.

We can successfully overcome Satan’s enticing strategies with God’s help, just as that fish disregarded the hook!

🙏🏻 Lord Jesus, give us the wisdom to recognise temptation and the humility to rely on Your Spirit for the strength to resist.
