MATTHEW 10:37–39
Like a sailor cutting loose from a familiar harbour to follow a new compass bearing, discipleship begins with release. What feels secure can quietly keep us from God’s greater call.
Jesus makes this plain in Scripture. In Matthew 16:24, He says that anyone who follows Him must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow. Matthew 10:37–39 deepens this, showing that love for Christ must come before all else. To follow Jesus is total surrender, not comfort.
Today, discipleship may mean letting go of status, routines, or approval. In Christ we are made new (2 Corinthians 5:17), called to live differently, even when obedience looks foolish.
🙏 May the Lord Jesus help you to surrender fully and follow Him wherever He leads. Amen.
