IT SINGS B FLAT

JOB 38:1-7

The supermassive black hole at the center of the Perseus cluster of galaxies is known to produce a lot of heat and light, but NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory discovered soundwaves from it in 2003.

Scientists determined that the sound the black hole was generating was a B flat, despite the fact that it was far, far below the human hearing range.

The idea of music and heavenly bodies is really not new. From our text, God asked Job where he was when He laid the foundations of the earth and the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy as He revealed Himself to him.

St. Francis of Assisi wrote a beautiful hymn that expresses our astonishment and reverence when we see the bright sun during the day or the star-studded sky at night:

All creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing Alleluia, Alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam,
Thou silver moon with softer gleam:
O praise Him, O praise Him!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
(trans. by William H. Draper. 1968 Singspiration)

The heavens reveal God’s glory, and the firmament demonstrates His handiwork.

Let us give thanks to the One who created such lovely things for us to enjoy!

🙏🏼 Thank You, God, for creating the world in all of its splendor for our enjoyment as well as Yours. Thank You for creating us as well.
