I AND MY FRIENDS

1 SAMUEL 18:1-4; 23:15-18

“Such is friendship, that through it we love places and seasons; for as… flowers drop their sweet leaves on the ground around them, so friends impart favour even to the places where they dwell,” opined John Chrysostom, the archbishop of Constantinople (347-407) in reference to friendship.

Jonathan and David are a wonderful example of a genuine friendship. They nurtured their connection by expressing their concern for one another and by proving their loyalty to one another. David received gifts from Jonathan, who also kept an eye on him during numerous challenges.

We can read about their closest time of friendship in 1 Samuel 23:16. When Jonathan’s father was after David as a fugitive, he got up and went to David in the woods to strengthen him. During difficult times in life, friends can encourage you to find strength in God.

Let us be the kind of friends that concentrate on what we can give in a society where most relationships are about what we can get. (John 15:13)
