PROVERBS 2:1-5
Thomas reads slowly and word-for-word, while Jane skims. Tom retains more information, easily quoting from a week ago, while Jane’s retention can evaporate after turning away from the screen or book.
Skimming is a common issue when reading the Bible. We are tempted to quickly skim through well-known portions, tales we have heard since we were little, or a psalm that was sung in a well-known chorus.
Proverbs 2 encourages us to seek a heart of understanding by carefully reading the Bible and investing time in memorising its truths.
When we look for it with all of our hearts, we find God and His wisdom. When we look for it like buried treasure and seek it out like silver, we find understanding.
🙏 Dear Lord, help us to slow down and listen to what You want to teach us through Your Word.
