MARK 10:17-27
The Story of the Rich Young Ruler may cause problems for some Christians today, as our society is a materialistic one. It is hard for people to give up their wealth. His encounter with Jesus shows how difficult it is to enter the Kingdom of God (especially for those who are attached to earthly possessions).
Does this mean anyone with wealth cannot enter the Kingdom, and does this mean that you can only have eternal life if you give up your riches? Surely, giving up sin is what matters most. Having money is not an issue, if that money is used for something good and to God’s glory.
The Rich Young Ruler almost made it – to be counted as a disciple of Christ. But alas! He was stopped by his possessions which could not be forfeited.
