MATTHEW 13:14-22
A restaurant owner gave a 50% discount to customers who turned off their cell phones. He thinks that the use of cellphones has changed the emphasis of meals away from discussion and company and toward web browsing, texting, and business calls. He claims that technology is excellent. However, if you are with family or friends, you can just wait for 30 minutes to enjoy the meal and the company.
We might become sidetracked from the Lord or our relationships with people so quickly by a variety of things.
Jesus admonished His followers that spiritual distraction starts with dull hearts, hard-of-hearing ears, and closed eyes (Matthew 13:15). He compared the seed that fell among thorns to a person who hears God’s Word but whose heart is set on other things, using the analogy of a farmer sowing seed. The word is choked by the concerns of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth, and he loses his fruitfulness (v. 22).
There is considerable value in setting aside moments during the day to turn off mental and emotional noise and concentrate on the Lord.
Everything becomes clear when we focus on Christ.
🙏O Lord, help us to turn off all the distractions around us and focus on You.
