GOOD WORDS

PROVERBS 10:18–21; 12:17–19

Which human muscle has the most strength? Some claim that the tongue is the strongest muscle; however, since muscles do not function in isolation, it is difficult to say for sure.

But we are aware of the power of the tongue. It can cause a lot of harm. This dynamic, tiny muscle that aids in chewing, swallowing, tasting, and the start of digestion also has a propensity to help us say things we should not. The tongue can be used to injure others and to flatter, curse, lie, and boast. And that is merely a condensed list.

Nevertheless, things do not have to be that way. Our tongues can be used for great good when the Holy Spirit is in control of us. We can declare God’s justice and righteousness. We are able to confess our sins, proclaim the truth, and show love.

One of the best functions of the tongue, according to Proverbs 12:18’s author, is that it promotes healing. When He enables us to use our tongues to bring healing—not harm—to everyone we speak to, just think of how we may exalt the One who created them.

🙏🏻Lord, help our tongues speak words of healing and not harm.
