A punch list is prepared during key milestones or near the end of a construction project listing work not conforming to contract specifications that must be completed prior to final payment.
The phrase (punch list) takes its name from the historical process of punching a hole in the margin of the document, next to one of the items on the list. This indicated that the work was completed for that particular construction task. At construction sites where it is easy for paper to get lost, the punch list would be fastened onto a wooden post. As each item was completed, a worker would use a nail to “punch” a hole next to each completed item. Only after every item on the punch list was taken care of could the job supervisor truly declare, “It is finished.”
God had been working out our His salvation plan even before Jesus came to complete the work. Calvary was the final construction site of man’s salvation project. The nails that pierced Jesus’ hands and feet were marks of completion (punch list). And when it was all done He said, “it is finished.”
