JOSHUA 2:1-14
Imagine searching through your family tree and coming across a description of your ancestor that reads: “A prostitute who sheltered government enemies in her home.”
What would you do in such circumstance? Will you keep your family’s history hidden from everybody who inquires about it? Or will you proudly tell of your family’s past?
Many stories of strong and brave women appear throughout the Bible. Rahab, a prostitute from the Canaanite city of Jericho, is featured in the Book of Joshua as one of the most remarkable and inspiring heroines of the Old Testament.
We might group her with all of the other renegades and poor examples in the Bible if all we knew about her was what we read in Joshua chapter 2. Her story, however, does not end there. She was King David’s great great grandmother, and she was in the bloodline of our Saviour, Jesus, according to Matthew. Rahab was a woman of faith who was saved from the fall of Jericho, according to Hebrews.
That is how tremendous God’s love is. He has the ability to take people with a poor reputation and turn them into living demonstrations of His compassion and forgiveness. Read about Rahab and rejoice if you think you are too bad to be forgiven, or if you know someone who does. There is hope for all of us if God can transform her into a shining example of holiness.
🙏🏼 Lord Jesus, thank You for taking our guilt and carrying our shame.
