PSALM 37:7
Some men were working in a building for storing ice when one of them realized he had lost his wrist watch in the building. He and his friends searched frantically for it without success.
After they left the icehouse, a lad went into the building. Soon, he appeared with the watch. When he was asked how he found it, he said, “I just sat down and kept quiet, and soon I could hear it ticking.”
The scripture talks about being still or quiet on several occasions. Sometimes God speaks in a still small voice (1 Kings 19:12). It may be hard to hear Him with all the hustles and bustles of life.
“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him…” (Psalm 37:7)
We could start by learning to keep silent for a few minutes after prayer. Or by quietly reading the Bible and letting the words sink into our hearts.
May the Lord grant unto us the patience and discipline to stay still for a while each day, that we may hear His gentle whisper in our lives, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
