DEUTERONOMY 4:1-10
Kim Peek (1951-2009) was a savant (a person with exceptional memory) who knew all of Shakespeare’s plays by heart. During a performance of Twelfth Night, Peek observed that one of the actor’s lines had been skipped. Peek leapt to his feet and shouted, “Stop!” The actor apologised and said that he did not think anyone would mind. “Shakespeare would,” Peek responded.
Words are important. But especially when they are God’s own words. Moses admonished Israel not to add to the word or subtract from it, but to observe the Lord’s commands (Deut. 4:2). He promised them that obedience would bring them life’s blessings and a rich inheritance (vv.39-40). God was concerned about every command and regulation. His people’s attitude toward Him was reflected in the value they put on His Word.
We give God the reverence He actually deserves today when we value His Word, handle it with great care, and obey what it says.
🙏🏼 Heavenly Father, help me to obey Your word in everything I do and teach others to do so too.
