EAST AND WEST MEET

ROMANS 14:1–12

A visiting instructor from America encountered Southeast Asian students who left some questions in their first multiple-choice test unanswered. The instructor suggested that students take guesses instead of leaving answers blank. One student raised concerns that if their guess was right, it would imply they knew the answer when they did not, highlighting the difference in perspective and practice between the student and teacher.

During the New Testament days, Jewish and Gentile converts from diverse backgrounds came to Christ, leading to disagreements on topics like worship days and dietary restrictions. Apostle Paul emphasised that we cannot know or judge another’s heart, highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting others’ perspectives.

For the sake of harmony, every Christian should be accountable to God, act according to His Word and conscience, and recognise that He alone can judge our heart attitudes.

Let us be slow to judge others, but quick to judge ourselves.

🙏Father in heaven, forgive us for presuming to judge those who see things differently than we do.
