DOES GOD NOT CARE?

HABAKKUK 1:1-11; ISAIAH 55:8

Why is the sober victim gravely hurt in an accident while the drunk driver walks away unharmed? Why do evildoers thrive while good men suffer? How often have events in our lives left us feeling so perplexed?

As he observed the unpleasant circumstances in Judah, where immorality and injustice were pervasive, Habakkuk was struggling (Habakkuk 1:1–4). He was so perplexed that he asked God when He would do something to make things right.

God declared that He would chastise Judah through the Chaldeans. The ferocity of the Chaldeans was well known (v. 7). They were obsessed with violence (v. 9), and verses 10–11 show that they only revered their military prowess and false gods.

We must have faith in God’s constant character when we do not comprehend His ways. That is exactly what Habakkuk did. According to Psalm 89:14, he believed that God was a just, merciful, and truthful God. He gained the ability to view his circumstances from the perspective of God’s character rather than from the perspective of his own circumstances (Habakkuk 3:19).

🙏🏻Help us to remember that You are good and faithful, even though we cannot see everything and may not understand how You are working.
