DO NOT RUSH THIS FOOD…

NEHEMIAH 8:1-12

Few people make time for a nice meal in the company of friends in today’s fast-paced society of “eat and run.” Someone even said that nowadays, the only way to eat a seven-course meal is between two slices of bread!

After many Israelite exiles in Babylon came to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple and the city walls, they gathered to hear Ezra read from the Book of the Law, which God had given to Moses (Neh. 8:1). Hours were spent listening to God’s Word and being taught.

When they lamented for their failures, Ezra and the governor, Nehemiah, told them that this was not the time to be sad, but to rejoice. The people were instructed to make a feast and distribute it to those who were in need. Then everyone went their own way to eat and drink, to send portions, and to rejoice exceedingly because they had understood the meaning of the words spoken to them.

The spiritual banquet that God has provided for us in His Word is a wonderful source of delight. It is worth taking the time to relish.

🙏🏼 Lord, give us a hunger and a thirst to know You more
that can be satisfied only by time spent with You in Your
Word.
