JAMES 1:22–27
Samuel recalls his difficult childhood in sub-Saharan Africa, where his mother gave him chilli peppers before bed and he drank water to cool his mouth and feel full, which he found unsuitable for his diet.
Samuel’s father fled due to government upheaval, leaving their mother as the sole provider. His brother had sickle cell anaemia, and they could not afford medical care. Their mother took them to church, but Sam wondered why God allowed their family to suffer like this.
A man helped Sam with their treatment and invited them to his church on Sunday. Sam noticed a unique atmosphere where they celebrated their relationship with Jesus by living His love.
Sam started over 20 churches, a large school, and a home for orphans. He continues the legacy of true religion taught by James, the brother of Jesus, who urged us to do what the word says, including caring for orphans and widows in distress.
A simple act of kindness in Jesus’ name can have a profound impact.
