CALLING SAMUEL

1 SAMUEL 3:1-10

John and his coworkers were walking to the gate after passing through airport security, he heard his name: “Paging John Clean. “I am calling John Clean.” He was certain it was him. He assumed he had forgotten something at the check-in counter. He checked with an airline agent, who instructed him to pick up a red phone, provide his name, and inquire as to why he was being paged. He looked for and called a phone, but the operator answered, “No, we did not page you.” “It was absolutely my name,” he replied. “No, we did not call you,” he was told again. He never learned why he had been summoned on that particular day.

Long ago, a young boy named Samuel heard his name called (1 Sam. 3:4). Samuel had not yet known the Lord, nor had the Lord’s word been given to him, so the temple priest Eli had to explain who was calling him. Samuel’s destiny was then revealed by God.

The Lord has a plan for us as well, and He speaks to our hearts, inviting all who are tired and burdened to come to Him for rest (Matt. 11:28). That is His invitation to us to accept His salvation, rest, and peace as a gift.

The Lord is calling to us to come to Him.

🙏🏼Lord Jesus, we come just as we are.
