RUTH 2:13-20
As I sat in the departure lounge and tried to pay attention to my son, I barely noticed the woman talking to the lady at the counter shuffle herself to the exit leaving her luggage. The clerk told me that she did not have enough money to pay for the ticket, so she went to seek help. I felt terrible. If only I had known about her situation sooner, I would have helped her.
In the Book of Ruth, Boaz took note of Ruth’s predicament when he saw her gleaning in the fields. He discovered that she had recently become a widow and that she was the bread winner of the family. Realising her need for protection, he warned his workers to leave her alone. He provided her with extra food by ordering his workers to deliberately drop the grain. Boaz even responded to Ruth’s emotional needs by comforting her. When Naomi found out about this, she said, “Blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee.” (Ruth 2:19)
Do you know the needs of those around you – in your church, neighbourhood, or under your own roof? Think about how you can carry someone’s burden today. Then you will fulfill God’s plan for you (Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 2:10).
