BEYOND TIME

JOHN 6:53–69

In 2016, theatre companies worldwide celebrated William Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary with special productions, concerts, lectures, and festivals. Shakespeare is considered the greatest playwright in English, and his work has been celebrated through concerts, lectures, and festivals. Contemporaries like Ben Jonson wrote of him, β€œHe was not of an age, but for all time.”

Jesus Christ is the only person whose life and work will endure beyond time, as He is the bread that came down from heaven. When many people were offended by His teachings and stopped following Him, He asked His disciples if they also wanted to leave. Peter replied, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”

When we welcome Jesus into our lives as our Lord and Saviour, we join His first disciples and those who have followed Him in a life that will endure beyond time.
