BE NEAR

PSALM 34:4-18

My friend was dealing with some challenging issues. I admitted to him that I was at a loss for words and actions. “Just be near,” he urged as he turned to face me. I chose to take that action.

When others are challenged, we frequently do not understand how to respond, and our comments could even be harmful. Understanding others and learning what they need is a prerequisite for helping them. By addressing immediate needs, we can frequently assist. Yet being nearby—to sit by them and listen—is one of the best ways to help individuals who are struggling.

God is close to His people (Psalm 34:17–18).

We may support those who are in need by placing ourselves in their situations and allowing compassion to fill our hearts. God is with us, so we can sit close to them and be around them. When the timing is right, the Holy Spirit will provide us with the appropriate words to say.

🙏🏻Lord, take us near those who need our help this week.
