ISAIAH 7:10-15
There are several notable baby boy births in the Bible. The firstborn after creation was Cain. The future of Israel depended on Isaac. Samuel was the fulfillment of a mother’s earnest prayer. All were really significant and joyfully anticipated. And all were described by the writers of Scripture in a similar way: we are informed that the mother conceived and gave birth to a son in each case (Genesis 4:1; 21:2-3; 1 Samuel 1:20).
Now imagine the arrival of another baby boy. The depiction of this arrival was far more thorough; it was obvious that a few lines were insufficient to adequately convey Jesus’ birth. We were informed in Micah that He would be born in Bethlehem (5:2). Isaiah prophesied that His mother would be a virgin (7:14) and that He would come to redeem humanity from sin (chapter 53).
We were given important facts in the New Testament, including His name and the reason for it (Matthew 1:21), the place of His birth in fulfillment of prophecy (2:6), and how both His biological mother and His adoptive father were a part of God’s plan (1:16).
All births are surpassed by the birth of Jesus. His arrival transformed the world and has the potential to influence our lives. Let us honour Him as we anticipate the upcoming month and another Christmas season!
🙏 Jesus Christ, You are the greatest gift known to man.
