A TRUSTWORTHY SERVANT

JOSHUA 14:6-15; 1 PETER 4:11

From Monday through Thursday, a Mexican bricklayer constructs walls and fixes roofs. He works diligently and quietly. He was still using his hands to construct buildings at the age of 70, and he keeps on working to build God’s family.

His life was often in danger. He has experienced death from falls and automobile accidents while sleeping under the stars. He was kicked out of some towns. However, he firmly believed that God had appointed him to do what he does, and he gladly serves.

His fidelity makes me think of the fidelity of Joshua and Caleb, two of the men Moses dispatched to investigate the Promised Land and report back to the Israelites (Joshua 14:6–13; Numbers 13). Their buddies feared the living humans.

His faithfulness reminds me of the faithfulness of Caleb and Joshua, two of the men Moses sent to investigate the Promised Land and report back to the Israelites (Numbers 13; Joshua 14:6–13). Their comrades were scared of the people who lived there, but Caleb and Joshua trusted in God and believed He would help them conquer the land.

The tasks assigned to us may be different from those of the bricklayer or Caleb’s and Joshua’s. But our confidence can be the same. In reaching out to others, we rely not on ourselves but on the power of our God.

🤔❓: Where has God placed us to serve? Are we being faithful?
