1 KINGS 1:44–53
A businessman once discovered that a cashier had accidentally given him too much change. Though no one knew, his conscience troubled him until he returned it. A clear conscience is worth more than hidden gain.
In 1 Kings 1:44–53, Adonijah learnt that Solomon had become king. Fearing the consequences of his earlier rebellion, he fled to the altar and pleaded for mercy. Solomon spared his life but warned him to live rightly.
When our conscience troubles us, we should not ignore it. Let God’s Word expose what is wrong, confess our sins, and depend on the Holy Spirit for strength to obey. A clean conscience brings peace and freedom.
