A REMINDER FROM ABIGAIL

1 SAMUEL 25:14–33; PROVERBS 16:7

David and 400 warriors searched for Nabal, a prosperous brute who refused to help them. They encountered Abigail, Nabal’s wife, who had prepared food for the troops and warned David of guilt if he followed his vengeful plan. David realised her rightness and blessed her for her good judgement.

David’s anger was legitimate, as he protected Nabal’s shepherds and received evil from him. He initially aimed to kill Nabal, despite knowing God did not approve of murder and revenge.

When offended, we need to compare our instincts with God’s intent for human behaviour. Choosing a gracious response helps avoid regret and pleases God. Honouring God in relationships can make even enemies be at peace with us.

🙏 Lord, thank You for holding back Your anger and having mercy on us. Help us to walk in step with Your Spirit so that our actions please You in every situation.
