PSALM 74:4–8, 12–23
In recent years, we have witnessed some of the bloodiest assaults on Christians who were worshipping in churches. Bloodshed in a place of worship may be beyond our comprehension. However, we can get some assistance from others who are familiar with this type of suffering.
In Psalm 74, Asaph describes the destruction of the temple by ruthless invaders, causing anguish among the people of Jerusalem. Despite the terrible reality, Asaph finds solace in God’s mighty power, praising His salvation on earth. He prays for the oppressed to praise God’s name, urging them not to retreat in disgrace.
God’s love and power are not lessened in the slightest when justice and mercy appear to be lacking. We can declare with confidence, “God is my King (Psalm 74:12),” thanks to Asaph.
🙏 May God honour His name. May He show Himself strong on your behalf. May He rise up and defend you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
