HEALING FLOOD

PSALM 107:1–16, 35–36

As a child, I enjoyed thunderstorms with thunder and heavy rain, stomping around our house, soaking up when it was time to return inside.

In Psalm 107, God’s restoration is compared to a barren wilderness transformed into pools of water, a downpour that floods every crack with new life.

And is that not the kind of restoration we desire? We require a good deal of hope when our stories seem to be about aimless travelling because we are hungry and thirsty—starving—for healing that never seems to come (vv. 4–5). According to verse 20, that is precisely the kind of change that our God is capable of bringing about. It is never too late to bring our shame and anxieties to the One who can easily free us from our bonds and fill our darkness with His light (vv. 13–14).

🙏 Father, help Your people to turn to You with their burdens. Write a new story of healing and transformation in Jesus’ name. Amen.
