1 SAMUEL 20:30–34
“A weed is any plant that grows where you do not want it,” my father explained, passing me a hoe. Although I wanted to keep the corn plant that had sprouted among the potatoes, he insisted I remove it to prevent it from hindering their growth.
Humans are not plants. They have minds and free will. Sometimes they try to grow where God did not want them to.
King Saul’s son, Jonathan, could have become king, but he saw God’s favor on David. Jonathan showed humility by becoming David’s best friend and even saving his life, recognizing his father’s envy and pride.
Some might argue that Jonathan sacrificed too much, but how would we want to be remembered? Like Saul, who lost his kingdom, or like Jonathan, who saved a future ancestor of Jesus.
God’s plan is superior to our own. We can resist it and be like a weed out of place, or we can embrace His guidance and thrive as plants in His garden. The decision is left to us.
🙏Lord, forgive us for those times when we act as if You have planted us in the wrong place. Help us see Your purpose.
