ROOTED IN GOD

JEREMIAH 17:5–8

Some friends planted a tree near their fence, anticipating it to blossom after five years. After two decades, it died—or so they thought—due to neighbours pouring weed killer, which seeped into its roots. To their amazement, the following year some shoots came through the ground.

The prophet Jeremiah compares the image of trees flourishing and perishing to God’s people, who either trust in Him or ignore His ways. Those who follow their own hearts will be like a shrub in the wilderness, but those who follow God will bear fruit. The prophet hopes that God’s people will come to depend on Him.

According to John 15:1, the “Father is the gardener,” and we can put our reliance and trust in Him (Jer. 17:7). May we follow Him wholeheartedly and produce fruit that will last.

🙏Dear God, I want to totally rely on You, no matter how prosperous or how dry things get. Help me in seeking your support and comfort.
