PSALM 139:1–18
The vastness of the universe is astounding. The moon is currently orbiting our planet at a speed of over 2,300 miles per hour. Our planet is orbiting the sun at a speed of 66,000 miles per hour. Our galaxy is one of 100 billion galaxies speeding across space, with our sun and 200 billion other stars and trillions of planets among them. Amazing!
Our Earth is a small pebble and our lives are a grain of sand, but according to Scripture, the God of the galaxies intimately watches and listens to each of us, seeing us before we existed and listening to our every thought (Psalm 139:1-6,13-16).
God’s caring attention is not a naive wish, as it is a reality in times of personal suffering. King David wrote Psalm 139 during a crisis (vv. 19–20), and Jesus said God counts each hair on our heads as He cares for us (Matthew 10:30).
We are well known to the One who maintains the spinning of the galaxies. That can sustain us at our darkest moments.
