DANIEL 6:19–28
At a museum, I viewed a large mural-type image of a winged lion symbolising Ishtar, the Babylonian goddess of love and war, one of 120 similar lions that lined a Babylonian pathway between 604 and 562 BC.
According to historians, the Hebrew prisoners in Nebuchadnezzar’s empire would have encountered these lions following the Babylonians’ conquest of Jerusalem. Additionally, historians surmise that a portion of the Israelites would have thought Ishtar had defeated Israel’s god.
Daniel, a Hebrew captive, remained unwavering in his faith, praying three times a day, even in a lion den. King Darius praised Daniel’s faithfulness, stating that God is the living God who rescues and saves. His faithfulness allowed him to influence Babylonian leaders and maintain his faith.
Despite facing pressure and discouragement, maintaining faithfulness to God can inspire others to give Him glory.
🙏Dear God, may we experience your unending love and remain close to you, especially when discouraged.
