A SHEPHERD FOR LIFE

GENESIS 48:8–16

His son exclaimed, “I want my teacher for life!” when he had to switch classes at school. We had to assist him in realising that life requires changing teachers. Is there a relationship that can endure forever, we might wonder?

Jacob, the patriarch, discovered a constant presence in his life after experiencing dramatic changes. He prayed for God’s blessing on his grandsons, expressing gratitude for his shepherd’s presence throughout his life (Genesis 48:15–16).

Jacob, a shepherd, compared his relationship with God to that of a shepherd caring for his sheep, guiding and protecting them from birth to old age. David, a shepherd, also believed in this, stating that he would dwell in the Lord’s house forever (Psalm 23:6).

Life involves changing teachers, but having a lifelong relationship with the Shepherd is beneficial. The Shepherd promises daily presence and will be closer to us when life ends.

🙏Jehovah, we thank You for being the Shepherd of our lives.
