NEHEMIAH 2:1–9; PSALM 145:18
Dan’s father wore hearing aids because his years of military service had damaged his hearing. After Dan and his mother had been chatting for a bit longer than he felt was appropriate one afternoon, he jokingly showed them what he does when he is tired of hearing—he lifted both of his hands, turned off both of his hearing aids, and smiled peacefully.
They laughed. As far as he was concerned, the discussion was over!
God is not like Dan’s father. He longs to hear from His children.
Nehemiah said one of the shortest prayers recorded in the Bible prior to his request from King Artaxerxes (Nehemiah 2:4-5). His prayer was brief and was said at an obscure period, but God was listening.
Knowing that God hears all of our prayers, no matter how short or long, is consoling.
🙏Thank you, loving Father, for the beautiful privilege and opportunity of prayer.
