HOLY MONDAY: OUR DEEDS CAN BRING CHRIST’S “GOOD AROMA” TO THE WORLD

JOHN 12:1-3

A heart-touching gift can express our feelings in a way that words cannot.

Mary wished to express her devotion to her Lord by doing something unique for Him. She applied her costly, pure nard perfume, which is her most valuable possession, to Jesus’ feet. Breaking open the container, she surrendered all to her God and Lord.

A person who gives God everything also becomes a gift to others. Conversely, whoever weighs carefully in response to Christ’s command ultimately finds themselves bargaining with others as well. We spread the good aroma of Christ to others when we genuinely say “yes” to our Lord (cf. 2 Corinthians 2:15). By living according to God’s will, we too can spread the fragrance of Christ across the world.

If love and faith were the driving forces behind Mary’s act of anointing our Lord’s feet in Bethany, then love and faith can likewise inspire us to devote ourselves to Jesus even more.

🙏 Lord Jesus, often we cannot discern when to pour out costly perfume for your sake. Even if the world thinks it a waste, help us spread your good aroma.
