1 THESSALONIANS 1:1–10
The Viral Texts project at Northeastern University in Boston examines how printed content in the 1800s spread through newspapers—the social media network of that day. If an article was reprinted 50 times or more, they considered it “viral” for the Industrial Age. A 19th-century news article about Jesus’ executions appeared in 110 publications, indicating its widespread dissemination.
Paul commended the Thessalonica Christians for their bold and joyful witness to Jesus, stating that their faith in God had become known everywhere. Despite difficulties and persecution, the gospel message went viral, transforming the lives of men.
The gospel, through forgiveness and eternal life in Christ, transforms us and those we encounter through kind hearts, helping hands, and honest words.
May we send out a message that everyone can hear today!
🙏 Lord Jesus, with all the sad news around us, help us to spread the word.
