MATTHEW 25:31–40
During a downturn in Southern California, Pastor Bob Johnson recognised both difficulties and opportunities. He invited the mayor to discuss how his church could assist, which surprised the mayor. People usually came to him for help. Here was a minister offering him the services of his congregation.
The mayor and pastor collaborated to tackle pressing needs in their county, including over 20,000 seniors without a visitor, hundreds of foster children needing families, and many students needing tutoring for school success. While some needs could be addressed without much financial investment, they required time and interest, which the church had to provide.
Jesus promised His disciples a future day where they would receive their rewards. Some would be surprised by their reward, and Jesus would remind them that their actions for one of humanity were for Him.
When we give freely of the time, love, and resources God has given us, His kingdom work is accomplished.
