LAMENTATIONS 5:8–22; EZRA 9:9
Located in Jerusalem’s Jewish Quarter is Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue. The synagogue, which was constructed in the 19th century, was dynamited by commandos during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
The site was in ruins for years, but in 2014, rebuilding began. City officials used rubble as a cornerstone, quoting Lamentations: “Restore us to yourself, Lord, that we may return; renew our days as of old” (5:21).
Jeremiah’s Lamentations is a funeral song for Jerusalem, depicting the impact of war on the city. He also prayed for God’s intervention. Decades later, God answered the prayer as the exiles returned to Jerusalem.
Our lives may seem in ruins due to personal troubles and conflicts. However, our Father understands and patiently clears the rubble, repurposes it, and builds something better. Trusting in Him, who specialises in rebuilding projects, takes time.
