Horses have the biggest eyes of any land mammal, yet they also have weak eyesight and a smaller range of colour vision than humans. They cannot always distinguish between items on the ground as a result. Horses are so easily alarmed and inclined to flee until they are properly taught.
We might also want to flee problematic situations. We could feel like Job, who mistook his hardships for something else and wished he had never been born. He worried that the Lord, in whom he had put his trust, was attempting to destroy him because he was unable to perceive that Satan was attempting to break him (Job 19:6).
Our vision is also restricted, like Job’s. The challenging circumstances that frighten us make us want to flee. We are not alone in the eyes of God. He understands our fears and misunderstandings. He is aware that we are secure while He is with us. We have the chance to rely on His wisdom rather than our own in every situation.
🙏🏻Lord, train us to walk by faith and not by our limited vision.
