USING FIRE TO PLAY

JOHN 15:10-20; JOHN 14:21

His mother advised him not to play with fire. However, one day he made the decision to see what would occur if he did. He walked outside into the backyard to do an experiment with a box of matches and some paper.

He abruptly noticed his mother coming closer. He crossed his legs over the flames to conceal what he was doing because he did not want to be seen. “John, move your legs!” his mother yelled. “There is a fire underneath them!” He managed to move his legs quickly enough to avoid getting burned. Then he understood that his mother had forbidden him from playing with fire because she wanted to keep him safe, not because she wanted to ruin his fun.

We occasionally fail to comprehend the rationale behind God’s instructions. However, it is for the best. He does not want us to play with fire and injure ourselves.
