JOHN 13:18–22; PSALM 41:9–12
Holy Wednesday, or “Spy Wednesday,” is the Wednesday before Easter. Judas is believed to have betrayed Jesus to the Sanhedrin on that day.
Jesus’ remarks in John 13:18 make it clear how painful Judas’ betrayal was. Jesus was hurt by a person who was close enough to him to share a meal.
We have all probably been the victim of a friend’s betrayal. How can such pain be handled? Hope is offered by Psalm 41:9, which Jesus used to imply that His betrayer was present at the communal meal. After expressing his distress over a close friend’s deceit, David found comfort in God’s love and presence, knowing that they would uphold and keep him (Psalm 41:11–12).
Knowing that God’s enduring love and His enabling presence will be with us to help us bear even the most devastating grief gives us peace when people let us down.
🙏🏻 Heavenly Father, we are thankful that Your love is stronger than any betrayal.
