JOHN 13:18-30, 36-38
Jesus announced both Judas’ and Peter’s betrayals sequentially, which makes it easier for us to see the stark contrast between the two. Peter handed over his frailty to Jesus. He learned to put his faith in God’s goodness rather than his own shortcomings and strengths. When Peter said he would be loyal to Him until death, he was not trying to lie to Jesus. Nonetheless, he was relying nearly entirely on his own fortitude and skills.
Judas, in contrast, never confessed his betrayal to Jesus and constantly made an effort to maintain his pretense. Even though he will eventually give in to them, Peter did not worry about appearances, at least not while he was with Christ, though he will give in to them when questioned by a maid in the High Priest’s home.
Far too often, we believe that God only works through our better parts, but a large part of his plans are realised in and around our frailty.
🙏🏻Lord Jesus, we make so many mistakes. Help us overcome.
