PHILIPPIANS 1:1-11
I pay attention to grammar and spelling errors when I read a newspaper or magazine. I do not really look for mistakes; they just jump out at me! My typical response is to be critical of the publication and those who put it together. Why do they not employ a proofreader or use grammar checking?
In your field of expertise, you might have a similar experience. The more we know about something, the more judgmental we become over mistakes. It may harm our interactions with others as well.
Yet Philippians 1:9 presents an alternative viewpoint. Instead of encouraging a critical mindset, our knowledge should foster empathy. Compassion takes the place of criticism.
The Lord calls us to be filled with the fruits of righteousness that are by Jesus Christ, to the praise and glory of God, rather than becoming critics (v. 11).
No matter how much we may know about something, when the Lord fills our hearts, we are able to forgive faults, restrain our criticism, and appreciate others.
🙏🏻 Lord, replace our critical spirits with Your love and compassion for others.
