MARK 6:30-44
Mark 6:37 says, “Give ye them to eat” (or, “You give them something to eat”). Those remarks made by Jesus are simple to overlook. A massive crowd had gathered to hear Him. As the day wore on, His disciples began pleading with Him to send them out so they might go get something to eat on their own. However, Jesus commanded them to feed the crowd.
What made Him say that? He was trying them, according to John 6:6. Did He wish to test their level of faith in Him by performing a miracle? Perhaps, but it seems more likely that He wanted them to assist in taking care of the crowd and work directly with and for Him. He also accepted five loaves of bread and two fish, which were delivered to Him.
Jesus probably addresses us in the same way. When we talk to God about an issue or a friend who is hurting, He may respond, “You do something.” But we might say, “But I do not have enough time or energy.” Of course, we are mistaken. Jesus knows exactly how He will carry out His work through us when He asks us to get involved.
We must put our faith in Him and learn to perceive things from His perspective. He is the only one with the ability to influence events and provide assistance to those in need. Since His work depends on Himself, He wants us to assist Him. He will provide us with the necessary tools.
When God commands us to do anything, He already has a plan on how we are going to accomplish it.
