JOHN 13:1-17
It is said that some pastors from Europe went to D. L. Moody’s Bible conference in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. They put their shoes outside their room before going to bed as was customary, anticipating that hotel staff would clean them. Moody, who was aware of their custom, informed others of the need to clean the shoes when he saw them. But he was welcomed with utter silence. All of the shoes were gathered by Moody, who also cleaned them. What Moody had done was discovered by a friend who paid him an unannounced visit in his room. The word spread, and others took turns cleaning the next few nights.
The brethren were motivated to adopt Moody’s humble leadership approach. We remain humble when we are aware that God’s grace gave us power. Then, in humility, we spread God’s message by setting an example that others can follow.
Jesus is the perfect example of a servant leader. In addition to washing His disciples’ feet, He also sacrificed His life for us.
🙏 Lord , give us the grace to humble ourselves and serve others.
