PSALM 119:105
Longitude, an award-winning book by Dava Sobel, describes a problem early sailors encountered. The length of the day or the height of the sun allowed them to easily estimate their latitude in relation to the equator, either north or south. However, until English clockmaker John Harrison created the marine chronometer, which allowed sailors to determine longitude, calculating east/west longitude remained difficult and inconsistent.
We also have a trustworthy source of spiritual guidance – the Bible – as we sail the waters of life.
We require a constant guide to direct us and keep us on course, just like early medieval mariners. That is what occurs when we fervently seek the Lord and regularly reflect on His Word with an open heart and a willing spirit.
šGuide us Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
